Funky phonics

Funky phonics enriches what you are already teaching. It is designed to strengthen your existing systematic synthetic phonics programme and works by using highly engaging activities that encourage interaction, to introduce or reinforce sounds.

Each sound can be introduced in the same order as your chosen phonics programme to reinforce it.

Teachers stay with their existing phonics scheme and match the Funky Phonics sound to the sound they’re teaching that week.

If your programme introduces s this week, you use the Funky Phonics s session. When your programme moves on to a, you use the a session, adding an engaging reinforcement without changing the teaching sequence.

A simple cross-reference guide shows where each Funky Phonics session fits into the progression of the most widely used validated phonics programmes, making implementation quick and straightforward.

Your scheme decides what to teach. Funky Phonics enhances how children engage with it.

Core 14 Phonemes

Compatible with your existing validated phonics programme. Simply introduce each Funky Phonics session as you reach that sound in your own teaching sequence.

Funky Phonics starts with the Core 14 phonemes then moves to child-led box reveals where children take ownership of learning and extend their oracy skills.
