How The Talk Tower Works
The Talk Tower starts right at the beginning with pure sounds and blending. To be used along with your chosen systematic synthetic phonics scheme, it provides a clear pathway to confident speaking. It is delivered in a way that is simple and relatable for Early Years and Key Stage 1 children as well as those less confident or with additional needs.
This is achieved using short daily talk routines that can be implemented in as little as 10 minutes, and talk modelling videos to be used alongside your chosen phonics programme.
Beginning with the Core 14 phoneme sessions to establish strong foundations, build enthusiasm and encourage interaction, children are gradually guided towards confident speaking and active listening, learning early social and emotional skills along the way. The Talk Tower does not replace your existing systematic synthetic phonics programme, but sits alongside it, strengthening it. After the Core 14 Phoneme sessions, children take increasing ownership of learning through live box reveals, discussion and presentation opportunities, providing meaningful reasons to speak, listen and share ideas.
The next stage of The Talk Tower is encouraged through ‘partner talk’ along with good social emotional skills modelled by puppets Pip and Pop.
